Partner

Maxine Magri is a Certified Public Accountant with extensive experience helping businesses and individuals with strategic tax planning that protects their financial future. She is a problem solver and proactive partner to her clients, understanding what they need and acting on their behalf with the IRS and other regulatory bodies. She’s built a strong reputation for working with precision to efficiently prepare taxes and consult with LLCs, corporations, partnerships, trusts and estates. Since 1987, Maxine has advised startups and small businesses, playing a critical role in promoting growth in the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County communities. Maxine earned a B.S. from Eastern Mennonite University and extended her education with graduate courses in Business Management at James Madison University. Maxine is also co-owner of Kate’s Natural Products, a local natural products store. Her interests outside of work include traveling, the outdoors, exercising and reading.

C.J. Chenoweth, CPA

Partner

C.J. Chenoweth is an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a history of building strong business relationships in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. After graduating from Virginia Tech with an Accounting degree, C.J. joined Maxine’s firm in 2008. In 2012, he joined the team at Brown Edwards & Company, rising to the role of Senior Manager during his nine-year tenure. In 2022, he left Brown Edwards & Company to start Valley Marvel Tax & Accounting Services, a strategic partnership with Maxine’s firm to help develop and foster strong connections with her business clientele. C.J. has experience in preparing personal and business tax returns, including those in multiple states, tax consulting, estate planning, and individual financial planning. He believes in building relationships with his clients to help them anticipate their accounting needs and proactively protect what is in their best interest. He enjoys public accounting because he can help local businesses grow and thrive in the community he calls home. When he’s not busy working, C.J. enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, traveling to Smith Mountain Lake for boating, tubing and fishing.

Cheyenne Anderson

Administrative Associate

Cheyenne Anderson is our dedicated Administrative Associate, helping our staff schedule appointments and assist clients. She has been with Valley Marvel Tax & Accounting Services since 2019 and is the friendly voice you hear over the phone when you call. She loves interacting with clients, scheduling appointments, answering questions and learning more about them and their business. With a diverse work and educational background, she can connect with our clients in a meaningful way, putting them at ease throughout their partnership with the firm. Her inviting demeanor helps clients feel comfortable asking questions and learning more about the accounting process. When she’s not busy working, Cheyenne enjoys cooking delicious meals in her home kitchen and hiking with her boyfriend and dog.

Gregory Bray

Accounting Associate

Gregory Bray has been a vital member of the team at Valley Marvel Tax & Accounting Services since 2018. He has played a critical role in helping the firm grow and thrive by anticipating the needs of our clients and guiding them through the accounting process. Before working for the firm, Greg and his wife owned the Cinnamon Bear Bakery & Deli for six years. As a small business owner, he gained first-hand knowledge of the intricacies and challenges of running a business and the critical role accounting plays in protecting profits and minimizing loss. That experience has translated well to his work as an accountant, helping business owners navigate the complexities of financial regulation and management. Greg provides a full range of services, with a focus on the intricacies of payroll compliance, financial reconciliation, and tax return compilation. He attended George Mason University for Electrical Engineering and Blue Ridge Community College for Accounting. Greg enjoys playing golf with his young son and working on artistic projects in his free time.

Nikki Chenoweth

Office Administrator

Nikki Chenoweth is our dedicated Office Administrator who uses her strong organizational skills to keep our office running smoothly. Nikki joined Valley Marvel Tax & Accounting Services in 2022 after working for Riddleberger Brothers for eight years, where she estimated large construction projects and processed purchase orders. Prior to working for Riddleberger Brothers, Nikki worked in the accounts receivable and accounts payable departments at Service Mechanical, an HVAC and plumbing contractor in Lorton, VA. She is a hard worker with strong leadership skills who is driven to succeed in every role she plays. As a former Spotswood High School basketball and softball star, she now enjoys living an active lifestyle with her husband and three kids. Nikki loves to visit local parks, Smith Mountain Lake and detail cars in her free time. 

Steven Zheng

Tax Associate

Steven Zheng is a detailed and thorough Tax associate who has worked for Valley Marvel Tax & Accounting Services since January 2020. Steven's strong analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of taxation complexities help him manage our clients' needs while proactively protecting their finances. Steven speaks fluent Mandarin and enjoys working in accounting because he has seen his work improve his clients' lives and businesses. He is a seasoned accountant who provides a comprehensive, worry-free experience that our clients can trust by streamlining their financial accounting, tax returns and bookkeeping. Steven is a CPA candidate who has extensive knowledge of accounting software. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from Eastern Mennonite University after studying Social Work from Harbin University of Commerce in China. Steven enjoys reading in his free time.
